About Patrick

Patrick Halford works with boards, CEOs, investors, universities and deeptech teams on the decisions that sit between technology, markets, capital and commercial execution.

He is a co-founder of 8Weave, where the team uses AI-enabled outside-in analysis to understand companies, markets, technologies, investment portfolios and innovation ecosystems. The aim is not simply to collect more information, but to surface changes, risks and opportunities early enough to act on them.

Patrick’s background spans large-scale corporate technology, international R&D programmes, deeptech partnerships, funding, commercialisation and advisory work. At Spinverse, he led work across technologies including chips, sensors, compute, electronics, robotics, drones, defence-related technologies and industrial systems. His team secured more than €500 million in European and national funding for clients.

Before that, Patrick built a long career at IBM across software, services, alliances, acquisitions, P&L leadership and ecosystem development. He is also a Singularity University expert and regularly works with leadership teams on AI, funding, partnerships and the future of growth.

Patrick is especially knowledgeable when a team needs to look beyond its own assumptions and ask: what has changed outside our company, and what does that mean we should do differently now?

What should you talk to Patrick about?

Patrick’s background is particularly relevant when technology, commercialisation, funding and strategy start overlapping. Bring a real decision or assumption you need to test rather than a broad request for general advice.

01

Deeptech commercialisation

We have strong technology or research. How do we turn it into something customers, partners or investors actually care about?

02

European funding

Is public R&D funding the right tool for us? Which programme, partnership structure and project ambition would actually support our commercial strategy?

03

Strategic partnerships

Which corporate, university, research or international partner could change our trajectory more than simply adding another individual customer?

04

AI & market change

What has AI or another technology shift changed in our market already — and which parts of our current strategy may now be based on outdated assumptions?

05

International growth

Which market should we pursue, who should we partner with and what needs to be proven before committing serious time and capital to expansion?

06

Investor readiness

What will an investor see when they look beyond our pitch deck? Which assumptions, market signals or commercial gaps are likely to be challenged?

07

Board-level strategy

What should a board or leadership team be asking about competitors, customers, technology and market shifts that internal reporting may not reveal yet?

08

Research partnerships

How should universities, startups, corporates and research organisations divide roles so that a consortium creates more than a successful funding application?

09

Strategic focus

We have too many possible markets, technologies, funding routes and partnerships. Which ones could materially change the business, and which should we stop pursuing?
